What is SOLIDWORKS CAM?

SOLIDWORKS CAM, released in 2018, was one of the most exciting new products seen in years and represented a new chapter in SOLIDWORKS as a total manufacturing tool.

SOLIDWORKS CAM is a 2.5 axis milling and 2 axis turning solution that is powered by CAMWorks, SOLIDWORKS CAM will allow users to program in either part or assembly environments. In addition, SOLIDWORKS CAM will also be able to work with configurations of components to expedite the Programming process.

Why Choose SOLIDWORKS CAM?

Fully Integrated CAD/CAM

SOLIDWORKS CAM is an add-on to all versions of SOLIDWORKS CAD.

SOLIDWORKS CAM combines design and manufacturing in one application with an easy-to-use interface.

All CAM data stored in the SOLIDWORKS CAD file, do program directly inside SOLIDWORKS.

Feature Based Machining (FBM)

Feature Based Machining creates fully associative machining features include holes, pockets, slots, bosses, part perimeters, and more

Knowledge Based Machining (KBM)

Knowledge Based Machining capture and reuse the know-how and programming best practices of programmers and fabricators in the Technology Database to reduce programming time.

Automatic Feature Recognition

Automatic Feature Recognition allows FBM to instantly define itself by “reading” the geometry and create machinable features, thus allowing KBM to quickly create the operations and the toolpaths that follow.

Package

SOLIDWORKS CAM offers two modules: SOLIDWORKS CAM Standard and SOLIDWORKS CAM Professional.

SOLIDWORKS CAM Standard

SOLIDWORKS CAM Standard is included with any SOLIDWORKS (Standard, Professional or Premium) that has SOLIDWORKS Subscription Service.

SOLIDWORKS CAM Standard includes 2.5 Axis operations plus some basic operations for 3 Axis (Area Clear Roughing, Flat Area and Z Level Finishing) and NC Editor

SOLIDWORKS CAM Professional

SOLIDWORKS CAM Professional can be purchased separately and can be used with any package of SOLIDWORKS (Standard, Professional or Premium).

SOLIDWORKS CAM Professional adds 3 Axis mill level 1 operations (Z-Level Finishing combined cycle for steep/shallow machining), 4th and 5th axis positioning to index along those extra axes. With SOLIDWORKS CAM Professional, you gain access to assembly machining as well as programming for turning machines. What’s more, you can use 2.5 Axis VoluMill (ultra-high speed rough milling) and Probing functionality.
