Frequency Analysis

Every design has its preferred frequencies of vibration, called resonant frequencies, and each such frequency is characterized by a specific shape (or mode) of vibration.

If a design’s natural modes and its expected service vibration environment are closely matched, a harmonic resonance may occur and lead to excessive loads, resulting in failure.

Using frequency analysis, Natural Frequencies and the mode shapes can be calculated. These can be used to implement preventive measures, such as changing materials, geometry or design sections and adding dampers. This will improve design performance and life in such vibrating conditions.
