Steps to Make SOLIDWORKS Open File in a Default Version
Whenever a PC is installed with multiple versions of SOLIDWORKS like SOLIDWORKS 2014 / 2015/ 2016 and if you need to open SOLIDWORKS files on your correct version as a default, you can use following methods and solve it.
Step 1: Go to Control Panel and Select Programs ->Default Programs -> Select Associate a file type or protocol with a program
Step 2: In Set Associations look for sldasm, slddrw and sldprt as shown below
Step 3: Select sldasm and click change program and select browse in the following next tab
Step 4: You have to browse for the location C:\Program files\SOLIDWORKS Corp version e.g. (2014/2015/2016) and select SLDWORKS.EXE as shown below
Step 5: Once you select SOLIDWORKS.exe, you are able to click OK in the next tab
Step 6: After following the above steps, you will be able to see SOLDWORKS 2016 on sldasm
Step 7: Follow the above same steps for slddrw and sldprt
